There were fireworks one night and lightening and a quick downpour and then clear skies dripping with stars and planes and a planet spotted somewhere and there were no bugs only birds singing lullabies and crickets being happy and people giggling here and there and big open fields drying off and swaying with a new night breeze that made the grass perfect for laying out on and staring up with and people kissed and talked and walked alone and thought about things and animals watched and kept to themselves but sometimes came out to see what was going on and then it got warmer and you didn’t want to go to bed you just wanted to stay where you were and look up or keep talking or keep walking or jump in the lake or stay close to someone or see another shooting star which you did so you made a wish and for that night knew it would come true so you kept hoping and thinking and kissing and wishing and knowing that everything was great which made the sky seem brighter and the grass feel softer and the beer taste stronger and then there was a fire surrounded by some people who danced or laughed but don’t worry you could still see the sky it was still there as great as it was before the embers shot up to catch the dark and you could still see some bodies here and there staying away from the flames which was okay because not everyone needs to sit near the light but the ones who did talked about the fireworks and how great they were and how fun it was to dance in the rain and the ones in the dark mumbled about that too which made the glowing horizon happy to have helped and ready to see what new adventures it could bring the little ones down below who seem to bask in the wide open hold of the night that seemed just right. |
